Origin And Development
The Rampur Raza Library is one of the world's magnificent, unparalleled repository of cultural heritage and treasure-house of knowledge built up by successive Nawabs of Rampur State. It contains very rare and valuable collection of manuscripts, historical documents, specimens of Islamic calligraphy, miniature paintings, astronomical instruments and rare illustrated works in Arabic and Persian languages besides 60,000 printed books.
The Central Government took over the library with effect from 1st July, 1975 under Rampur Raza Library Act (Act No.22 of 1975). The affairs of the library are managed by the Rampur Raza Library Board which has been set up under Section 4(2) of the Act. It is the governing body with His Excellency, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh as the Chairman. There is a provision of twelve other members including one descendant of the erstwhile ruling family of the Nawab. The Board is represented by distinguished historians, scholars in Arabic, Persian and Urdu literature besides officials concerned with the affairs of the library in the Central and State Governments.
After the legislation of Rampur Raza Library Act in 1975 by the Parliament of India, the library was given the status of the Institution of National importance with a provision of the Rampur Raza Library Board as it managing body under section 4(2) of the aforesaid . it occupied position of a governing body with His Excellency, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh as the Chairman. The Rampur Raza library board consists of twelve competent members including one member of the descendant of the erstwhile Nawab family of Rampur. The other members are distinguished historians scholars of Arabic, Persian and Urdu literature besides officials of the Central and State Governments collectively directing the affairs of the library.
Aims & Objectives
The main purpose of the library is to extend all facilities to the scholars in their endeavour for researches and to ensure preservation and protection of invaluable collection of manuscripts, paintings and rare books besides publishing text of Arabic, Persian, Urdu and Hindi manuscripts and Catalogues, journals etc. The library has undertaken a project of publication of books on history, art and culture of medieval India. The library also organizes workshops, seminars and holds special lectures for promotion of learning and creating awareness among the young scholars.

Services of the Reading Room
Aimed at strengthening the reading room services, the Library has arranged a hall, which is also a primary entrance into the library's research collection. Where the readers can read the newspapers, periodicals and magazines of their choice.
